England international Harry Kane scored the second Tottenham Hotspur goal as they finished the latest Premier League season in style via the 5-0 away win over Norwich City who finished at the bottom of the league table. Kane was a doubt for Spurs ahead of the Norwich City game due to illness, but he was able to take his place in the starting XI for the game.

With the big win over Norwich City, Spurs were able to secure Champions League football ahead of Arsenal. As a matter of fact, a point from the Norwich City game would have given Tottenham Hotspur a spot in the Champions League next season ahead of the Gunners since they have a better goal difference. In the end, Kane and Tottenham Hotspur finished two points ahead of Arsenal who also scored five goals on the last day of the season. The Gunners thrashed Everton 5-1 at home on the final day of the season, but it turned out that the result was not enough for Champions League football.

Although Ralf Ragnick is the current manager of English Premier League giants Manchester United, he is only maintaining that role for the short term and is expected to step down from the position at the end of the season. He agreed to and signed a contract with the club on a short-term basis as he was brought in to take charge of the club for the remaining six months of the current season after the Red Devils decided to part company with former boss Olé Gunnar Solksjaer.

Uruguay are one of few nations who can say they have won the FIFA World Cup tournament at least once. As a matter of fact, they have won it two times starting with the first edition on home soil in 1930. The second win arrived twenty years later and it remains the sweeter of the two wins after they won against all odds at the expense of hosts Brazil who were also favourites.

The Uruguayans have a rich history when it comes to the World Cup tournament and it’s not surprising that long-serving manager Oscar Tabarez was sacked shortly after the poor defeat to Bolivia in La Paz. Tabares was the hero on the sidelines as he led Uruguay to the semi-finals at the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament in South Africa before they were beaten by the Dutch team in the last four of the tournament. They went on to lose the third/fourth place playoff to Germany thereby finishing fourth at the end of the tournament.

While other countries have been, through their football federations, giving assurances to the head coaches of their national teams that they would be keeping their jobs despite the campaign they had at the Euros, Russia have acted differently.

The Russian Football Federation has confirmed that they have relieved head coach Stanislav Cherchesov of his duties and he has stepped down from his role with immediate effect following the disastrous campaign they had at the Euros. The Russian team performed really below par and did not meet up the expectations of a lot of people and the outcome of their Euros campaign has cost Cherchesov his job.

Last month, Portugal played against Serbia in their World Cup Qualifying match and it proved to be not only entertaining but also controversial. The Portuguese national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo scored what could have been the match-winning goal for his side during stoppage time but saw his goal canceled after assistant referee Mario Diks legend that the ball did not cross the line.

Qatar World Cup does not have any security concerns and issues even as tensions in the Middle East have risen over the last few weeks. There has been a lot of military action over the last few weeks, as U.S.-led strikes have increased tension in the region. There is an increased risk of a direct war taking place between Iran and the United States for the first time. As a result, concerns have been raised about the upcoming World Cup 2022, which will be held in Qatar. However, World Cup organisers have reassured that Qatar remains as one of the safest regions in the region.

Interestingly, these statements come at a time when Qatar is still facing a lot of sanctions from the neighbouring countries over support to terrorism and related activities. Clubs have been trying to acclimatise to the surroundings with winter training camps and competitions. A lot of development has gone into the infrastructure and facilities to ensure that the competition is not affected by the intense heat that the region is known for. Qatar has been subject to intense scrutiny from neighbours like Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Egypt since 2017. The recent completion of the Club World Cup in a safe and a dignified manner showed that Qatar is capable of hosting the big events with little problem.
